Sam Slockbower is a freelance French horn player based in New Jersey. She most recently performed with Nathaniel Rateliff and the Rootstock Republic at Lincoln Center. She is a substitute with the Johnstown Symphony, Adelphi Orchestra, Staten Island Philharmonic, Richmond County Orchestra, and Principal Horn of the Understaffed Chamber Collective. Sam was also an Apex Fellow with the Apex Ensemble, during their 2021-2022 season. For two seasons Sam served as the Principal Horn of the Mediterranean Opera Studio and Festival in Caltagirone, Sicily. In 2015 she was a member of the winning chamber group in the Carnegie Mellon Rembacher Competition for innovative chamber music performances.

Sam received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Performance from Carnegie Mellon University where she studied with Bill Caballero. She received her Master of Music from Montclair State where she studied with Michelle Baker. Sam has also performed in masterclasses for Mark Houghton, Hugo Valverde, and Elizabeth Freimuth.

In her free time, Same volunteers on the development team for PROTESTRA, a 501 (c)(3) orchestra that bridges the divide between classical music and grassroots advocacy. She recently held internships with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and Brevard Music Center as an Education and Community Engagement Intern and an Artistic Operations Assistant.
